ZDF's TV show “Wanna bet?” in Russia and Italy
ZDF's success TV show "Wetten, dass..?" ["Wanna bet?"] now in Russia; Contract renewal with RAI I, Italy
The most successful live television show throughout Europe, “Wetten, dass..?” , will soon also be enthusing Russian audiences. Fred Burcksen, Vice President Distribution and Investments at ZDF Enterprises, tells us that the successful show format was sold to Russia’s Channel 1. This station is already broadcasting other internationally renowned shows such as “Superstars” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”. “Channel 1 is the largest Public Broadcaster in Russia,” says Burcksen, “with a market share of about 28%. The acquisition of “Wetten, dass...?” is just the start of a long and fruitful cooperation between ZDF Enterprises and Channel 1.”
The contract with Italy’s RAI I for “Wetten,dass..?” has also been extended. In Italy the show has been successfully aired since 1989, achieving an average market share of 27% in Saturday evening prime time.
In Germany “Wetten,dass..?” has been the undisputed number one among live shows ever since 1981, achieving an average market share of 46% on Saturday evenings on a regular basis. The factors that have made the programme such a success for so many years are, first, its host Thomas Gottschalk, Germany’s most popular presenter, the multitude of always unusual and amusing bet ideas as well as the array of international superstars from the areas of music, sport, film and television in each show. Among last year’s guests were, among many others, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, Sting, Elton John, Claudia Schiffer, Britney Spears, Lenny Kravitz, Dustin Hoffmann, Laetitia Casta, Joe Cocker, Céline Dion, Bon Jovi, Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, Shakira, Carlos Santana, Tom Jones, Meat Loaf, Andrea Bocelli and Rowan Atkinson.
