ZDFE and AETN Reach Programming and Co-Production Agreement
Multi-Faceted Deal Includes Program Acquisitions for Both The History Channel® Germany and ZDF History, and a Co-Production Agreement Between ZDF and

ZDF Enterprises and A&E Television Networks (AETN) today announced that they have signed a 3-year programming and production agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, ZDF Enterprises will acquire 60 hours of non-fiction programming from the AETN International catalogue for the top-rated ZDF History programming block on ZDF’s broadcast channel in Germany. Originally launched in February 2003, this block has consistently garnered strong ratings and positive viewer feedback. Airing weekly on Sunday nights, the block is programmed under the editorial control of ZDF programmers with content provided by both ZDF and The History Channel®.
AETN International will acquire 350 hours of non-fiction programming from ZDF Enterprises for broadcast on The History Channel in Germany, a new Pay-TV service on the Kabel Deutschland platform which launched in November 2004. These productions will include flagship, non-fiction programming from the ZDF library, such as ‘Terra X’, ‘Sphinx, Legends of History,’ and the contemporary history productions from the department of renowned producer and historian Guido Knopp.
In a third component of the agreement, The History Channel in the U.S. and ZDF Enterprises will co-produce at least 12 hours of contemporary and ancient history programming for broadcast on ZDF in Germany and on The History Channel in the United States.
