ZDF once again most-watched German TV Broadcaster of the year

With a market share of 13.3 % in 2014, ZDF is again the most watched TV broadcaster in Germany for the third time in a row. Furthermore, the network grew by 0.5 percentage points in the intensely competitive German market environment compared to 2013 (ARD: 12.5 %, RTL: 10.3 %). With 15.2 %, ZDF also takes first place in prime time from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ARD: 14.5 %, RTL: 10.7 %). In total, with its entire program family and affiliate channels, including ZDF Neo and Kika, ZDF reaches 17.9 % of the total German audience and is as strong as it was last in 1993.
The success of ZDF programming is due to a large part to the fictional offerings. The crime series on Saturday night prime time achieve an average market share of over 20 % with an audience of up to 6 million; the movies of the week grab an average of 23 %, with top values of more than 7.7 million viewers. New series such as “Helen Dorn” reach a market share of 25.3 % with 8.1 million viewers right from the start, and the latest “family-medical” series “Dr. Klein” also has impressive results, with market shares of about 16 % and about 4 million viewers.
The documentary programs on ZDF’s prime time also obtain new top scores, with market shares of more than 24 % and audience figures above 7 million. The renowned weekly documentary series “Terra X” maintains its high market share with top ratings of 17.4 % and over 5.5 million viewers.
