ZDF Enterprises triggers Story House Production’s “Neanderthal Apocalypse”

New documentary coproduced with major partners from US and Canada

Mainz, 6th March 2014

For thousands of years, Neanderthals roamed the earth: but in a flash, they disappeared from history. The Neanderthal extinction is one of history’s most baffling mysteries. But new information might solve this enduring riddle; scientists believe the Neanderthal was wiped out when a Super Volcano erupted 39,000 years ago. A team of scientists investigates this volcanic annihilation theory. And if a super volcano spelled the end for Neanderthals, could a future eruption drive humans to extinction?

Available in HD as a 2 x 50’ or 1 x 90’ program, “Neanderthal Apocalypse ” has gathered a number of sterling partners to create this fascinating historical documentary. Among them are HISTORY® (US), History (Canada), renowned production companies Story House and the Canadian firm C-Tales Entertainment.

ZDF Enterprises is particularly honored to be working with the Story House Media Group, which has offices in Washington D.C., Berlin, Munich and Halifax. The Story House Media Group offers international production partnerships, major talent, and established executives. It uniquely connects the world’s two largest television markets  – the United States and Germany – an asset that is of special importance to ZDF Enterprises.

Susan Werbe, Senior Executive Producer for History: “We are delighted to be working with our longtime co-producing partner ZDF Enterprises and the producers at Story House Media Group on this exciting project.  It promises to use exciting techniques to communicate new information and answer the question about why humans today have a little bit of Neanderthal DNA in each of us.”

The program is currently still in production. ZDF Enterprises will be handling world sales. Nikolas Huelbusch, Director of ZDFE.factual: “This is a production which we feel will interest viewers around the world, seeing that the Neanderthalers might very well have won the evolutionary race, leaving homo sapiens behind in the dust.”
