ZDF Enterprises to distribute the latest installment of hit drama series Ku’damm 63
Mainz, February, 24th, 2021
Ku’damm 63 (3 x 90’), the follow up to the highly successful Ku’damm 56 and 59, will be distributed globally by ZDF Enterprises. The three-part period drama is produced by UFA Fiction for ZDF.
Set in post-war Berlin, the Ku’damm series follows a conservative matriarch and owner of a prestigious dance school and her three daughters, as they each struggle to find their place as women in a changing world.
The Ku’damm series premiered on ZDF in 2016 and reached up to 6.35 million viewers and 19.6 % market share. ZDF Enterprises has licensed the previous two seasons Ku‘damm 56 und Ku‘damm 59 to over 30 broadcasters around the globe.
Robert Franke, Vice President ZDFE.drama, ZDF Enterprises, said: ”This engaging family saga delivers on so many levels. The combination of warmth, humour, nostalgia, generational dynamics and emotional conflict draws viewers in offering them hours of great entertainment.”
Berlin’s Ku’damm in 1963 is a different prospect to the sombre 50s. Youth is influenced by fashion and music from overseas and John F Kennedy makes his historic visit. The energy that erupted into the student protests in the late 60s can already be felt here. But the decade raises new questions and fresh challenges for the Schöllack family.
The three sisters, Monika, Helga and Eva, now grown women, are confronted with difficult choices in a society that is not as free as it claims to be. Marriages and relationships become strained as the new decade offers a different mindset. The rigid mores of the past and their mother, ever mindful of social conventions, add to the conflict in this poignant snapshot of West Germany in the 60s.
Ku’damm 63, launching on ZDF on Sunday, March 21st, was created by Annette Hess and produced by Benjamin Benedict and Nico Hofmann, with Marc Lepetit as executive producer.
