ZDF Enterprises to co-produce Swedish-German crime series Kristina Ohlsson’s Sthlm Requiem and handle global distribution
International launch with cast and crew at MIPCOM 2018
Mainz, 28th September 2018
ZDF Enterprises is working with German Pubcaster ZDF to co-produce the Swedish-German crime series Kristina Ohlsson’s Sthlm Requiem and will take responsibility for its global distribution. The international launch with cast and crew will be held in October 2018 at the MIPCOM trade show in Cannes.
Kristina Ohlsson’s bestsellers about criminologist and investigator Frederika Bergmann form the literary basis for the German-Swedish co-production Sthlm Requiem. The world-famous author – who is actually afraid of the dark herself – predominantly writes cryptic thrillers which delve deep into the abyss of human depravity.
The main role of the 10-part crime series, whose intensity is reminiscent of Scandinavian drama The Bridge, is played by Liv Mjönes (The Fat and the Angry and the ‘Swedish James Bond’ Agent Hamilton), who has been nominated for the Swedish Academy Award, the Guldbagge, on two occasions. She is supported by actor and writer Jonas Karlsson (Martin Beck, Snowman) in the role of police inspector Alex Recht and TV star Alexej Menvelov (Before We Die, Occupied, Jordskott) as the shady Peder Rydh.
The cases are grim and gruesome: In the pilot, a 5-year-old disappears from Stockholm’s central station without a trace. The trio of investigators suspect the father, who lives apart from the family and apparently has paedophilic tendencies. But appearances can be deceiving, and it isn’t long before another child goes missing...
The screenwriters of the Nordic noir series are Jörgen Hjerdt and Pauline Wolff. Conceptual management was handled by Karin Fahlén, who took care of mise-en-scène together with fellow director Lisa Ohlin.
Sthlm Requiem is a production of Black Spark Film & TV/Kärnfilm in co-production with ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, C More, TV4, and Nice Drama, Chimney Pot and Lunanime (produced by Piodor Gustafsson, Martina Stöhr and Petra Jönsson).
The first five episodes are due to be aired in 2019 – in ZDF’s slot for international co-productions on Sunday evenings at 22:00. The series will be premiere on TV4 and C More in Sweden in autumn 2018.
