ZDF Enterprises takes THE FALL to French channel NRJ 12

Mainz, 31st August 2015

ZDF's sales, distribution and co-production arm ZDF Enterprises is pleased to announce its first contract with France's NRJ 12, the Gillian Armstrong / Jamie Dornan thriller THE FALL. The Free-TV rights to both the first and second seasons of THE FALL were acquired by the French broadcaster, which will be airing the series starting in 2016.

The NRJ 12 TV network was set up in 2005 and is available through digital terrestrial television TNT as well as on cable, satellite and IPTV. Brilliantly written and acted, THE FALL will meet the expectations of the broadcaster's core 25 to 49 audience , a family demo group that is being increasingly cultivated by NRJ 12.

ZDF Enterprises and Content Television, a division of Content Media Corporation, have partnered on the international distribution of  THE FALL, a crime franchise produced by Artists Studio for the UK’s BBC Two, starring Emmy and BAFTA Award winning Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan, whose lead role in "Fifty Shades of Grey" has brought him widespread recognition. Now in its second season, the gripping psychological thriller (10 x 1 hour) is written and created by Allan Cubitt (The Runaway, Murphy’s Law, Prime Suspect).

Fred Burcksen, Executive Vice President and COO of ZDF Enterprises said today: "NRJ 12 is the ideal home for a series like THE FALL, with its twists and turns that appeal to mixed audiences, and its clever, innovative structure that focuses on Gillian Anderson's character in the first season, and Jamie Dornan's in the second. We're sure that the success we've had so far with this crime drama will be repeated on NRJ 12."

Giving equal time to hunter and hunted, THE FALL follows the lives of two hunters within one story: Anderson (Great Expectations) is DSI Stella Gibson, a successful, highly driven homicide detective; and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) is Paul Spector, the serial predator she seeks, who randomly preys on young women in and around Belfast while hiding behind the façade of loving husband and father. The second season inverts the perspective, as it focuses on Anderson as the hunted and Dornan as the hunter in a complex tangle of murders and madness.
