ZDF Enterprises takes Spectacular HD Underwater Documentary 'Project Ocean Quest' to MIPTV
ZDF Enterprises has taken charge of worldwide distribution for the spectacular underwater documentary [http://www.zdf-enterprises.de/project_ocean_quest.16001.htm Project Ocean Quest (5x52')]. The series of programs is currently being made by Sound&Vision and is scheduled for completion early in 2010. The gripping concept behind this five-part production involves Frederic Buyle, World Freediving Champion, employing his extraordinary skills to get closer to animal life underwater than is possible for high-tech divers. Buyle, a committed activist in the cause of nature conservation, has worked on a number of international ocean research projects launched by a younger generation of marine biologists - such as the first major study into the migration routes of the hammerhead shark, led by Dr. Serge Plane (Perpignan) and latest research into the language and 'dialects' of the humpback whale, organised by Dr. Michael Poole (Moorea, French Polynesia). With his exceptional abilities Buyle is able to dive 50 metres below the surface and remain there for up to four minutes - with just one breath. Since he is of course completely silent when he dives, he can get closer to even the shyest marine creatures and observe them in their natural habitat. By using this technique it has been possible to study sharks and whales in the South Seas, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, for instance, capturing breath-taking footage of their social, mating and eating habits. The producers have managed to secure the services of the famous Christian Petron as cameraman on the 'Project Ocean Quest' documentary series; Petron has worked with Luc Besson on 'The Big Blue' and 'Atlantis' as well as being involved in several stunning diving sessions down to the wreck of the Titanic.
'Project Ocean Quest' combines science, nature and adventure in a gripping yet informative manner. Thanks to the extensive experience of cameraman Christian Petron and top High Definition production values, impressive visual quality is guaranteed. The scientific background to each expedition, including the findings of latest research, will be illustrated with the most modern graphics; at the same time Frederic Buyle's incredible freediving skills will generate the sensation of adventure which is essential in order to involve the audience fully in the story.
