ZDF Enterprises takes Q Pootle 5 Down Under
Brand-new Pre-school series by Nick Butterworth sold to ABC TV
Mainz, 26th September 2013
ZDF Enterprises and Australian broadcaster ABC TV have just signed an agreement for the acquisition of the pre-school series ‘Q Pootle 5’ (52 x 11’ | HD) from Snapper Productions which will officially be launched at MIPCOM. The first episodes will start airing on ABC4Kids on Monday, October 7 at 5.20pm.
Based on the books by multi-million selling author and illustrator Nick Butterworth, the series follows the friendly alien Q Pootle 5 and his friends as they tackle the every day problems of the final frontier on their home planet of Okidoki.
Nick Butterworth is co-founder of Snapper Productions and executive producer of the series, which is being made entirely in the UK, with animation by BAFTA award winning studio Blue Zoo.
The show was already pre-sold to UK Broadcaster CBeebies where the first 26 episodes have already launched with great success. Other territories are being negotiated and are expected to be announced shortly.
"Q Pootle 5 will be a wonderful addition to our line-up of Australian and international preschool shows on ABC4Kids and we’re thrilled to be working with ZDF Enterprises again" said Barbara Uecker, Head of Programming & Acquisitions Children's Television.
Fred Burcksen, COO at ZDF Enterprises, said: “We are delighted that Q Pootle 5 and his friends have found their Australian home at ABC, our long-standing partner in children’s and youth programming. On top of this, we are very much looking forward to personally welcoming Nick Butterworth to ZDF Enterprises’ SUNDOWNER at MIPCOM, where we will toast to the successful launch of the show and this and further deals.”
Nick Butterworth adds: “Q Pootle 5 is a truly unique and exciting property, with engaging storylines, rich visuals and strong characters. ABC4Kids is the perfect home for the series in Australia and we are confident it will be as big a hit there as it has been for CBeebies in the UK.”
