ZDF Enterprises sells BRON | BROEN, the original “THE BRIDGE,” to Hulu

U.S. website and subscription service to offer Danish/Swedish original starting 14th January

Mainz, January 9th 2014.

ZDF Enterprises is building new bridges for the international dissemination of the Danish/Swedish thriller series BRON | BROEN, the original THE BRIDGE. The first two seasons (20 x 60’) have been sold by the German license dealer to Hulu. The series will premiere exclusively in the U.S. on Hulu and Hulu Plus on 14th January.

Hulu is an online video service in the U.S. that offers a selection of hit TV shows, clips, movies and more on the free, ad-supported Hulu.com service, and the subscription service Hulu Plus.

Besides garnering top ratings in its two native lands Denmark and Sweden, BRON | BROEN, the latest Nordic Noir series distributed by ZDF Enterprises, also struck gold for BBC4. The BBC’s small but prestigious digital channel provides, in the station’s own words, “an ambitious range of innovative, high-quality programming that is intellectually and culturally enriching.” The series maintained solid ratings throughout its airing, doubling the BBC4 primetime average with 849,500 viewers for the last episode. The UK press gave it an enthusiastic reception, even hailing it as “the latest triumph of Scandinavian cultural imperialism” (Telegraph).

Produced by Filmlance (Sweden) and Nimbus Film (Denmark) in coproduction with ZDF Enterprises, ZDF, DR and SVT, the crime series is centered around two strong and uncommonly charismatic leads, Sofia Helin as the emotionally challenged Swedish inspector Saga Norèn, and Kim Bodnia as the laid-back, womanizing Danish inspector Martin Rohde. Also playing a major supporting role is the Öresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden.

“BRON | BROEN – the original “THE BRIDGE” shall without any doubt continue its winning streak on Hulu. We are really pleased to make the series available on such an innovative platform,” said Alexander Coridass, President and CEO of ZDF Enterprises, who are in charge of international sales of the series and brokered the deal.
