ZDF Enterprises secures major US drama deal with Viaplay

Germany’s biggest distributor becomes launch partner for Viaplay’s forthcoming US streaming service

Mainz, December 14th, 2021

ZDF Enterprises has concluded a deal that will see 11 of their top Scandinavian dramas premiered on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service that will launch in the US later this year.

The package deal includes new series Grow (8x42’),  the fast-moving thriller about two brothers on colliding paths in life, and Huss (10x45’) inspired by Helene Tursten’s best selling novels.

Yi Qiao, Director ZDFE.drama, ZDF Enterprises, said: “Our catalogue is unrivalled when it comes to top quality Scandinavian drama, with titles from Emmy Award winning creators and Oscar nominated producers. I’m delighted that our partnership with Viaplay will give American audiences an opportunity to enjoy our range of captivating and thrilling shows.”

Along with Grow and Huss, Viaplay’s new streaming service in the US will premiere Thicker Than Water (27x60’), a family saga that uncovers hidden truths and dark secrets, and the political thriller Blue Eyes (10x60’).

The deal includes two series from 3 time Emmy Award winners, Peter Thorsboe and Mai Brostrøm, the creators of The Team (8x60’), portraying a group of European police officers fighting international crime, and it’s follow-up Team Reloaded (8x60’).

The gripping Scandinavian noir drama, Stockholm Requiem (10x45’), from Piodor Gustafsson, the producer of the Oscar nominated feature films, Border and The Wife, will also premiere on Viaplay US as well as The Dying Detective (3x60’), based on the eponymous novel by acclaimed author Leif GW Persson.

Three other crime dramas that will be entertaining American audiences are Johan Falk (17x90’), The Protectors (20x60’) and Top Dog (8x45’). Johan Falk is a tense thriller based on actual Swedish criminal cases from SSI files while the Danish series, The Protectors, focuses on the lives and missions of specialist bodyguards. Top Dog features an unorthodox duo, a lawyer and ex-con who collaborate to solve cases.
