ZDF Enterprises scores with fiction programs at MIP TV 2006

ZDF productions especially popular in France and Italy

Mainz, 19 April 2006.

ZDF Enterprises made a particularly strong performance with fiction programs at this year's MIP TV, the television trade fair that just recently wrapped in Cannes. Fiction programs made up 72 % of the overall turnover. Among the biggest sales were packages of 44 TV movies to France (M6), Belgium (RTBF) and Switzerland (RSR), as well as the first sales contracts for the Danish crime series "The Eagle". Negotiations with 13 other territories for the Emmy Award-winning production are reaching the final stage. Among the most widely sold individual programs are fiction productions such as the crime series "The Eagle", "Siska", "A Case for Two", the classic "Derrick" detective series and the romantic TV movies from the Rosamunde Pilcher collection.

"This spring we scored outstanding results in Cannes with two important European countries, France and Italy," says Alexander Coridass, General Manager of ZDF Enterprises. "We made about 76 % of our turnover at MIPTV 2006 in the French- and Italian-speaking territories, which is due in particular to the enormous popularity enjoyed by ZDF fiction programs in these countries."

In the field of children's programs, the animation series "Shaolin Wuzang" topped the sales lists, with 44 % of the turnover for children's and youths' programs achieved by this rousing adventure series. The live-action series H20, which is still in production and will be officially launched at MIPCOM 2006, has already provoked considerable interest. Pre-sales negotiations with the major European territories are underway.

Regarding coproductions of programs for young viewers, the animation series "Minifant - Forgotten Tales from Okavango" and "Laura's Star 2" struck a resoundingly positive note. Here, too, ZDF Enterprises is negotiating various international contracts for pre-sales and coproduction partners.

Documentary coproductions continue to arouse great interest among ZDF Enterprises' partners, in particular the "superdocs" on China, high-gloss documentaries with above-average production budgets. These are made possible through special agreements between ZDF and China's CCTV, such as, for example, the production "The Last Emperor." Also in demand were topics such as "The Children's Crusades," "Mega Disasters," "Metropolis 2," "The Wehrmacht" and "The Great Dictators," for which coproduction talks have already begun.
