ZDF Enterprises reports strong early spring sales of documentary series to UK and Australia

ZDFE.factual programs grab interest of major English-speaking territories

Mainz, 31.3.2014

Spring 2014 has gotten off to an early and lucrative start for the ZDFE.factual team, which is proud to announce the signing of major deals with partners in the English-speaking territories. A hefty bundle totaling more than 60 program hours was acquired by partner BSkyB in its first collaboration with the ZDFE.factual team. As a result, the series “Hard Time,” “Alaska State Troopers,” “Navajo Cops” and the documentary “Counterterror NYC” will soon be seen in the UK and Ireland.

In addition to this deal, contracts with the broadcaster UKTV were also signed. ZDFE.factual is proud of its steadily expanding work relations with UKTV in the past months. Among the highlights of this channel’s documentary purchases are “Rocket City Rednecks” (seasons 1 + 2, altogether 36 episodes), “Invisible Universe (season 1 + 2, four episodes) and “Countdown to a Catastrophe” (three episodes). A very important partner who operates several broadcasters and VoD in the UK and Ireland, UKTV acquired the TV and VoD rights for the territories of the UK and Ireland. UKTV is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Network Interactive.

A deal was also inked with the Australian partner Network 7, which bought the rights not only to the first season of the “Rocket City Rednecks” but also acquired the first and second seasons of the Canadian series “Bomb Hunters” and the series “Cowboys of the Sea.” All of these series will be aired very shortly on Australian Free TV.

Andrea Roskosch,  Director of ZDFE.factual, who brokered the deals: “We are very excited about these deals with interesting partners in the UK and Australia and are also convinced that their audiences will enjoy watching these foreign but high-quality and entertaining English-language factual programs.”
