ZDF Enterprises picks up distribution and sales mandate from World Media Rights

Brit series “Secrets of the Bible” to be distributed by German licensor

Mainz, 11th March 2014

ZDF Enterprises is pleased to announce a new sales and distribution mandate from World Media Rights. The German rights licensor will be handling the international distribution of World Media Rights’ series “Secrets of the Bible,” a 13 x 50 minute program.

World Media Rights is currently one of the largest factual-program producers in the UK, with nearly 1000 programs in its catalogue. The company was founded in 2007 with the objective of producing world class factual series for a world market. Under CEO Alan Griffiths, it now supplies factual series to over fifty five countries around the world. Its programs are regularly seen on Discovery Networks (US and UK), UKTV’s Yesterday channel (UK), France 5 and Planète (France), Foxtel and Channel 9 in Australia and on ZDF and Spiegel TV (Germany).

The “Secrets of the Bible” series tells stories of real human drama as obsessives hunt for the truth behind the Bible. From the Lost Tribes of Israel to the Tower of Babel, from the Holy Grail to The Temple of Solomon, the programmes tells tales of the adventurers, archaeologists, historians, scientists and eccentrics who have tried to uncover the truth about some of the Bible’s greatest mysteries.

The films tell sagas of extraordinary events - of cities swallowed up by the earth, of visions of heaven, of frauds and battles. Each film focuses on a single explorer who believes that he’s uncovered the truth. Some spend millions on their quest. Others face humiliation and ridicule. Some risk their lives. There are secret meetings with shadowy private eyes, encounters with terrorists, terrifying geological disasters and even a secret theft from the throne of the Queen of England... This series mixes dramatic reconstruction, documentary filming, archive and testimony from those who were there.

Ralf Rückauer, Head of ZDFE.factual at ZDF Enterprises: „There is an increasing demand for longer running factual series and this exceptional project is the perfect product to meet our customers’ needs. We are very excited to be working with World Media Rights, a company with a content orientation very similar to ours.”

Alan Griffiths, CEO World Media Rights: “We are delighted to be working with one of Europe’s oldest and most distinguished television operations on this exciting new series which will be overseen by our Creative Director; the double Emmy award winning Matthew Barrett. Matthew has long wanted to make this series as it combines many of the themes which we find sell in the fifty five countries around the world which regularly license our programmes. These themes include a personal crisis, action adventure and self discovery and redemption. These are the very essence of compelling television ….”.
