ZDF Enterprises' Market Line-Up for Spring Trade Fair MIP TV 2015

Mainz, 16th March 2015

The perfect mix of light and dark, fact and fiction, and thoroughly enjoyable programs await media buyers in the spring portfolio of ZDF Enterprises, the distribution, production and co-production arm of German broadcaster ZDF.

Alexander Coridass, President and CEO of ZDF Enterprises: “We have added  a selection of new top programs to our successful catalogues. I am sure that they will prove a recipe for top audience ratings for many more of our customers. "

Two of ZDF Enterprises’ drama highlights were selected for the BERLINALE Special Series 2015: In the first one, Berlin shows that its crime is on a par with other international metropolises' in Blochin – The Living and the Dead (1 x 90' + 4 x 60' HD). It's as dark as its title suggests, and revolves around a team of Berlin homicide inspectors, one of whom was on the wrong side of the law for many years. In the second Berlinale Special, the timely Blue Eyes (10 x 60' HD), the "quest" motif is given free rein when a young woman attempts to track down her mother's murderer; her search takes her to an extreme-right movement that is carrying out attacks against Swedish society.

A treat for all fans of Scandinavian crime is in store for buyers of dramas, who will welcome the return of the Arne Dahl series, now in its second season (10 x 60' or 5 x 115' HD). When a wave of murders hits Polish nurses in Sweden, the National Police's elite force is reinstated.

Among this spring's factual highlights is a powerful documentary on The Invasion (2 x 50' HD), Hitler's attack on Poland 70 years ago, which marked the beginning of WWII. This rare commemorative German-Polish coproduction brings to light many little-known facts and pays tribute to the nation that was the first to suffer under Hitler and his henchmen.

Going back several thousand years, we can delve into the life and times of our closest human relative, the Neanderthal man, and learn in Apocalypse Neanderthal (1 x 90' or 2 x 50' HD) why the cultured and savvy fellow went the way of the mammoth. Meanwhile, Secrets of the Bible (13 x 50' HD) presents an astonishing collection of stories about passionate believers and adventurers who have sunk fortunes and risked their lives in their search for the literal truth behind the Bible's greatest mysteries. Continuing the "wild" collection of wildlife at its best is Wild Australia (5 x 50' HD), where super-slow motion helps us follow extraordinary animal dramas. Surprises await koala lovers!

To put a smile on a child's face, all you need is an animated series with dinosaurs; to keep them smiling, you need dinosaurs and pirates – which is just what ZDFE's Junior Collection now has in Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs (52 x 11' HD), featuring an utterly lovable bunch of dinos who are prevented from doing nasty things by four courageous kids. Older kids will enjoy Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures (26 x 26' HD), a live-action show with a hero who seems to attract impossible situations like a magnet. Back in animation, Four and a Half Friends (26 x 26' HD), which includes a courageous canine as the "half", shows that kids can truly solve all kinds of misdeeds – and still get their homework done.

Entertainment has always occupied a privileged position at broadcaster ZDF. Timeless shows are the glittering Dalli Dalli (format, 150'), in which teams of celebrities vie to be the first to solve tricky problems; and Quiz Champion (format, 150'), where challengers compete with five specialists in their field to win a quarter of a million euros.

Another highlight from ZDFE.entertainment is ZDF's Crime Watch XY (format, 90'), the first reality show ever! The concept is simple but exciting: to help the police find the criminals who've committed unsolved crimes, they ask the TV viewers for help. Now a classic, it is one of the most successful formats on German TV.
