ZDF Enterprises licenses ROCKET CITY REDNECKS to Discovery Networks International
Mainz, 25rd September 2013
ZDF Enterprises has just inked a major deal with Discovery Networks International, for the licensing of the factual series ROCKET CITY REDNECKS (20 x 30’ HD) for Discovery Science in selected markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Valid for three years, the license goes into effect in October 2013 and covers territories in Central and Eastern Europe including Russia and CIS, Scandinavia, Benelux and the Middle East and Africa.
Huntsville, Alabama, USA is also called “Rocket City” and is home to the “Rocket City Rednecks” – a group of real-life redneck geniuses who apply backwoods know-how to big questions in science, technology and engineering. Travis Taylor, the ringleader of the “Rocket City Rednecks”, has a PhD in engineering and Top Secret clearance with the U.S. government. Besides being typical Deep South, Huntsville is also the home of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, where NASA began in the 1950s. When NASA, the Department of Defense, or private industry needs someone to solve a big scientific problem, Travis is their man. Joining him is a group of backwater Einsteins like Rog, a guy with a genius IQ of 160; Pete, an optical scientist who designs satellites at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center; and Travis’ dad Charles, one of NASA’s original engineers.
Ralf Rückauer, VP ZDFE.factual at ZDF Enterprises: “We’re very proud of our long and fruitful relationship with Discovery, and especially of this deal, which concerns a somewhat different factual programme: a light-hearted, often humorous show that combines science and fun. In the future, we hope to have more of these light docs that serve up solid facts and information with a smile.”
