Cannes and Mainz, April 12th, 2018
ZDF Enterprises, one of Europe’s leading TV producers and distributors for the international market, has once again confirmed its expertise in the field of documentaries by leading the Top 10 list of the most requested programs at this year’s MIPDoc.
No. 1 of a total of 1,300 programs in the MIPDoc library was ‘The Story of Europe’ (6x50’), produced by Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion and interscience film for ZDF in co-operation with Arte and ZDF Enterprises. The ground-breaking series tells the story of Europe in six glossy episodes exploring different chapters of its eventful history. It’s a journey through time and across space, from physical beginnings to the first human settlers, the evolution of European culture and religion, historical achievements in exploration, technology and politics, and a daring look at the continent’s present and future. Europe has been at the heart of world events for thousands of years and laid the foundations for much of modern society worldwide, while its perpetually fluctuating landscapes, climate, fauna and flora have shaped its own story. This series explores different aspects of the continent’s incredible history, always set against the bigger picture. Stunning photography, pertinent questions and surprising insights paint a mesmerising portrait of Europe. ‘The Story of Europe’ is available either as a six-part series presented by Christopher Clark or as a presenterless version.
ZDF Enterprises’ second title in the Top 10 reached No. 5 in popularity at the screenings is ‘A Day in the Life of Earth’ (2x50’), produced by Screen Glue and Yap Films in association with ZDF Enterprises, CBC, WGBH/NOVA and France 5. This documentary tells the story of our planet’s geology on a human time scale. A new era of science allows us to watch as the Earth moves, breathes, shrinks and grows, and all within just 24 hours. The story is driven by scientists, explorers and everyday people whose experiences link up with cutting edge data, newly launched satellites and blue chip CGI to show us the true personality of the Earth … more dynamic than it’s ever been seen. Every minute new land is born, every hour tons of rock arrive from space, before one goes to sleep a cloud of dust from the Sahara will have fertilized the Amazon, and while all that was happening the North Pole moved nearly 200 meters …
