ZDF Enterprises distributes second season of the Guido Knopp series “Secrets of the 3rd Reich”
First season to be premiered on National Geographic Channel US on Friday, August 24th
ZDF Enterprises will be handling the international distribution of the second season of the spectacular series “Secrets of the 3rd Reich” from the workshop of ZDF’s Contemporary History Dept. under the direction of Prof. Dr. Guido Knopp.
In 5 x 50’ HD episodes, the production offers new insights into the stories behind the history, and will present new facts and surprising findings. The topics of the various episodes include “The Secret of U-513,” “The Nazi Gold Myth,” “Hitler as Patient,” “Hess – The Secret File,” as well as “Special Commandos” on topics such as the liberation and assassination of Mussolini, the murder of Heydrich, the invasion of Dieppe and the Nazi resistance organization “Werwölfe (Werwolfs)” in territories occupied by allied forces after the end of WWII.
What happened to the trains full of Nazi gold at the end of WWII? Is it true that Hitler’s personal physician wanted to poison him slowly with medication? What became of the vanished U-Boot U-513? What is the connection between the mysterious death of Hitler’s deputy Rudolf Hess and his fateful flight to Great Britain in 1941? And how did spectacular Secret Service operations affect the outcome of WWII? These are only a few of the exciting questions which this investigative, unique and surprising documentary series tries to answer in this second season with the help of incredible, newly found documents and eye-witness accounts.
The new season of “Secrets of the 3rd Reich” is currently being produced for ZDF by experienced authors such as Oliver Halmburger, Christian Frey and Alexander Berkel, and will be completed in summer 2013.
The first season was coproduced with National Geographic Channel US and National Geographic Channels International, and was already aired in various territories under the title “Nazi Underworld”. It is scheduled to air in the US 8 & 11 PM ET on Friday, Aug. 24 as well as 7 PM ET on Sunday, Aug. 26. It also will air next Friday, Aug. 31, at 4 PM.
