ZDF Enterprises collaborates with Jasper James

Three projects in the pipeline

Mainz, 12th September, 2016

ZDF Enterprises has teamed up with renowned independent documentary producer and three-time Emmy Award winner Jasper James, founder of UK production company Screen Glue, to create three new documentary productions. ZDF Enterprises will also be taking over worldwide distribution of all three.

In the larger-than-life special Why Size Matters (2x50’ or 10x30’), Jasper James takes the audience to a series of parallel worlds where size can be changed, to answer the biggest (and smallest) questions in the universe in an unforgettable way. The ZDF/Terra X editors and arte have agreed to team up for the project and shooting will begin soon. Broadcasting will follow in the spring of 2018. The series has already sparked the interest of several networks and non-linear platforms.

A Day in the Life of Earth (2x50’), currently in development and open for coproduction, shows the staggering changes that happen across Earth in the space of just one day. Every day, massive areas of new land are made and lost, changing the shape of our planet and meaning that, quite literally, we wake up on a different world every single day. Supplemented by beautiful CGI animations, this film goes to the ends of the Earth to reveal the dynamism of a planet always in motion.

Top Ten Wonders of the Universe (2x50’), also currently in development and open for coproduction, will whisk the audience around the space-time continuum to present the ten most awesome experiences in the universe as chosen by ten of the foremost scientists, astronauts and thinkers of our time. From flying like a bird on Titan to seeing a runaway star, this is the ultimate bucket list.

Ralf Rueckauer, VP ZDFE.factual at ZDF Enterprises: “Jasper James has this very rare talent of being able to turn hardcore science into an entertaining documentary that delves deep into specific topics. He is a great storyteller, he has an excellent scientific eye and is always curious to learn more about humanity and about the world we inhabit. ZDFE.factual is delighted to collaborate with him on these three fascinating projects.”

Jasper James comments: “We set up this business to create big, ambitious projects that were both entertaining and had global reach – and the ZDF Enterprises team not only shares our vision, but also provides the kind of support you need when you’re trying to pull together the world’s biggest broadcasters. These three new shows will all deliver a new way of looking at our world and I am confident that they will surprise and delight both international broadcasters and viewers alike.”
