ZDF Enterprises brings TEXAS KILLING FIELDS to Venice in competition
Mainz, 29th August 2011
ZDF Enterprises will be presenting its 2010 Berlinale acquisition TEXAS KILLING FIELDS in competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival. Produced by Michael Mann, the police thriller is directed by his daughter Amy Canaan Mann. In the lead roles are Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jessica Castain and Chloé Moretz. The feature will be launched in U.S. theaters on 7 October; there is no release date yet for Germany.
Headed by Margrit Stärk, ZDF Enterprises’ feature-film acquisitions department has been devoting itself more intensively for some time now to the development of feature film projects, for which “all rights” are generally acquired: I, ALEX CROSS, the adaptation of a James Patterson crime novel directed by Rob Cohen is currently being shot in the U.S. The theatrical release is tentatively scheduled for late 2012/early 2013. Stärk is currently negotiating with various film distributors. The Dean Koontz filming of ODD THOMAS is in post-production and will come to theaters most likely next summer. ZDF is responsible for the distribution of the Australian thriller SWERVE not only in the German-language countries, but also in a selection of foreign territories as well.
Next to thrillers and action films, family fare such as NICOSTRATOS also form part of the line-up. The feel-good movie about a twelve-year-old boy who lives on a Greek island and befriends a pelican will be tentatively released in German theaters next year.
