ZDF Enterprises announces impressive MIPTV and MIPDoc 2019 Lineup
This year, ZDF Enterprises will again be represented with exciting, emotional and informative programmes at the MIPTV Market, which will take place in Cannes from 8 to 11 April 2019.
The fictional section of ZDF Enterprises, ZDFE.drama, will travel to MIPTV with several remarkable productions in tow: Wild District (10x60’), a Netflix original series produced by Dynamo in co-production with ZDF Enterprises, combines drama and action and tells the story of a man who escapes the armed Colombian conflict only to find himself in a private war between two fronts. The thriller series Victor Lessard (30x60’) is based on the bestselling novels by Martin Michaud, whom critics call the “Master of Quebec crime thrillers”. Produced by the Canadian company Pixcom, it tells the story of a hero who uncovers a string of cruel crimes and has to sacrifice his own peace of mind in the pursuit of justice. Market screenings for both series will take place on 8th and 9th of April at the Palais des Festivals.
The three-part Bella Germania (3x90’), produced by Bavaria Fiction for ZDF and ZDF Enterprises, is a German-Italian family story. Conceived as a cross-generational epic, the three-part series draws an arc from the first Italian guest workers of the 1960s as they go from being foreign guests to familiar neighbours in the Germany of today. The protagonists tell of the search for identity, of love and home, and of expectations and disappointments over the course of time.
In the series The Best Things in Life (10x45’) by Bantry Bay Productions, Golden Camera winner Jürgen Vogel plays a father of three who, together with his wife and children, faces the small and big hurdles and problems of everyday life during a particularly challenging time in their lives.
The six-part series Beyond Appearances (6x52’) deals with betrayal and deception. The disappearance of the twin sister of a famous actress reveals long-hidden family secrets. The production comes from KAM&KA, with the involvement of France Télévisions and the CNC as well as support from La Région Grand Est. Queens of Mystery (3x90’), produced by Sly Fox Production for Acorn TV, humorously tells of how three sisters and their niece interact when it comes to uncovering mysterious murders.
In the Documentary Film and Entertainment genres, ZDFE.unscripted presents the animal and nature series Just Animals (10x50’), a production by WildBear Entertainment together with ZDF Enterprises and Screen Queensland. Its unbelievable footage from the animal kingdom and breathtaking images of our natural world are nothing short of fascinating. Planet of Volcanoes (1x50’), produced by True to Nature together with ZDF Enterprises, Thirteen Productions LLC for WNET, ZDF and Arte, describes an adventurous expedition to the most active volcanoes on Earth and scientifically investigates the origins of our planet. The history documentary The Greatest Race (2x50’) includes exciting effects to describe the backgrounds of the chariot races in ancient Rome. The Greatest Race was produced by Lion TV in cooperation with Smithsonian Networks, Channel 4, Arte, ZDF and ZDF Enterprises.
This time, when it comes to the entertainment genre, ZDFE.unscripted’s focus is on the international marketing of the format of the successful search series Crime Watch XY, which is one of the most successful TV formats for German television and was the world’s first reality show.
ZDFE.junior will leave a lasting impression at MIPTV with the third season of The Worst Witch (39x28’) and more. The successful series is a co-production from CBBC with ZDF, Netflix and ZDF Enterprises, and is based on the bestsellers by Jill Murphy. In the centre of the complex combination of real-time shooting and CGI technology are the exciting adventures of young witches who have to face some problems at the magic school. Another live action highlight is the series #Like Me (13x26’), produced by VRT & FABRIC MAGIC. It describes the challenges of young Caro, who has to settle in a new city after the serious illness of her mother. Finally, in the animation section, ZDFE.junior is presenting the series Bobo (26x7’), a likeable pre-school series about a cute dormouse and his everyday adventures.
Fred Burcksen, President and CEO of ZDF Enterprises: “ZDF Enterprises is once again bringing a colourful variety of programmes to MIPTV. We always strive to acquire, co-produce and sell the best programmes in the world. We look forward to presenting our latest highlights in Cannes to our partners.”
