ZDF Enterprises announces exciting new line-up of programs for MIPCOM

ZDF Enterprises, the sales and distribution arm of German pubcaster ZDF, has announced its strong line-up of new productions in its genres ZDFE.drama, ZDFE.entertainment, ZDFE.factual and ZDFE.junior for this fall’s TV industry trade fair MIPCOM (Cannes, October 17 - 20).
ZDFE.drama will be presenting “The Fall III” (now in total 18x60’ or 9x90’, produced by Artists Studio for BBC) at MIPCOM: the new season literally begins with a bang as serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) is rushed in critical condition into the very same emergency room where doctors are attempting to save the life of his most recent victim. Spector is suddenly on the other side of the knife. Detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) is desperate to save his life, determined to see the merciless killer in court to answer for his crimes, but she finds herself powerless to decide his fate. The drama series “Highway of Love” (10x50’) centers on an infamous Belgian thoroughfare lined with houses of ill repute. When Sylvia Carlier unexpectedly inherits one of these brothels following the untimely death of her father, she must make the best of the situation. Fleeing with her two children from a crumbling marriage, this suburban housewife is left with little choice but to master the situation. If only we could ALL have a Lotta of our own! “Lotta’s Life” (5x90’ TV Movies from the Love and Romance subgenre) tells the story of a lovely doctor and single mother who turns heads and hearts everywhere she goes. Young spirited and a little haphazard, she deals with the challenges of life and thus begins to walk her own path.
ZDFE.entertainment’s first MIPCOM highlight is “4 for family – The big family competition,” a game show format. Every day, the family masters challenges together, supports and helps one another. But is it really the tight-knit community? In “4 for family – the big family competition,” three families compete to provide proof that this is the case and to win an incredible prize. A lot of tasks on important family issues such as trust, love, cohesion, but also fun and adventure, await them along the way. The format and game show “You Can’t Fool Me!” is the believe-it-or-not game show where the star is nature itself and the tricks it loves to play on us. Sound, sight, touch, smell, taste? “You Can’t Fool Me!” prominent guests think, just as their senses are going haywire. With a variety of exciting experiments and challenges, the candidates — and the viewers — have fun being led down the garden path without knowing it! “The Game Begins” (format/game show) uses the eternal popularity of party games among all age groups. A team of celebrities takes up the challenges posed by a variety of games. Next to the classics, there are skill and reaction games, action and sports games, memory tests, strategy games, but also brand new games. The opposite team consists of children — and are they eager to win! How the games are staged represents a key visual in this program — always with a completely new twist.
Wildlife-Science-History: ZDFE.factual’s proposition for programming is very straight and clear. “The Desert Sea” (2x50’, 4K, produced by NHNZ TV in collaboration with Fox International Channels UK), shows the wildlife living under extreme conditions in the deserts in the southwestern corner of the United States in beautiful UHD pictures. “Children of the Wild” (1x50’, 4K, 360° VR) investigates whether a child can grow up all by itself, surrounded only by wild, ferocious animals – just like Mowgli in Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” Finally, “The Celts: Blood, Iron & Sacrifice” (3x50’, a Gruppe 5 production for the BBC, ZDF/arte and ZDF Enterprises) is a coproduction of the BBC and ZDF aimed at investigating the mystery of the tale of the Celts we know so little about.
ZDFE.junior will be introducing various highlights in both animation and live action at MIPCOM 2016: "Inui" (52x7’) is a pre-school animation series about fun, friendship and imagination and… about playing in the snow with your friends. Inui, a loveable little Inuit girl, lives somewhere in the Arctic Circle, has a heart that would melt the permafrost and would do anything to help her friends. Any personal jealousies, friction and misunderstandings are resolved together and the friends realize the importance of their friendship and work hard to maintain it. “Scream Street” (52x11’), a funny, scary, gross-out stop-motion animation show, is a fast-paced, stylish comedy-horror extravaganza based on the hit book series that follows the adventures of Luke Watson, who turns into a werewolf when he gets angry. The series is a frighteningly funny, “gross out” comedy for kids, set in a wacky neighborhood full of monsters where being a freak is perfectly normal. “King Laurin” (1x85’ or 4x22’) is the first ever feature film based on the famous legend of dwarf King Laurin. It is shot in the authentic Middle Aged world of the beautiful mountains of South Tyrol, Italy. “King Laurin” has already received awards for Best Feature Film, Best Actor and Best Director and received the Children Media Prize.
