ZDF Enterprises and Koch Media acquire Reese Witherspoon’s RULE # 1
Academy award winner in the lead role of new romantic comedy
Mainz and Munich, 29.2.2012
ZDF Enterprises and the Munich-based cinema and home entertainment distributor Koch Media have secured the extensive rights to the Reese Witherspoon comedy RULE #1 and will distribute the film jointly to interested partners in Germany and Austria.
The film was purchased from Foresight Unlimited during the last Berlinale; the distribution in movie theatres is planned for next year.
With RULE #1, director and screenwriter Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) is creating a witty comedy with great cinematic potential in light of the current trend towards romantic comedies. Diana McBride (played by Academy award winner Reese Witherspoon, known from numerous films such as "Pleasantville"(1998), "Election" (1998), "Cruel Intentions" (1999), "Legally Blonde" (2001), "Sweet Home Alabama" (2002), "Walk the Line" (2005) and "Water for Elephants" (2011) among others) suffers from an obsessive washing and cleanliness disorder, which has already caused her husband to leave her. With the help of a new love and her chaotic friend and her baby, she learns to cope with her bizarre neuroses and starts out on a new life.
Margrit Stärk, Director Acquisitions Feature Films at ZDF Enterprises confirms: "ZDF Enterprises and Koch Media have already worked together successfully in the DVD area. As both companies are looking to increase their activities in the cinema sector, the continuation of this seasoned partnership makes sense, particularly with such a highly promising project."
Stefan Kapelari, COO of Koch Media, adds: “We are extremely pleased to expand our cooperation with ZDF Enterprises with this joint commercialisation. Both the genre and excellent cast headed by Reese Witherspoon make RULE #1 a movie with huge commercial potential. Our partnership with ZDF Enterprises enables us to lay the foundation for the successful marketing of this feature film.”
