Worldwide rights to Emmy Award-winning drama 'The Eagle' exclusively from ZDF Enterprises
24 x 60' hit crime series boasts Emmy, loyal fans and a chill that lingers longer than a Nordic winter
Mainz, 28 March 2006.
As of MIP TV 2006, the international TV and ancillary rights to 'The Eagle': A Crime Odyssey by Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe will be licensed by ZDF Enterprises, one of the series' co-producers. A singularly successful crime drama, it was awarded the International Emmy for best drama in 2005, and has just been nominated for the Adolf Grimme Prize, the highest distinction for quality television productions in Germany. Executive producer Sven Clausen nabbed an award at the 2005 Monte Carlo Television Festival as 'Outstanding International producer of the Year' as well.
'The Eagle' conquered television audiences in Scandinavia and Germany as soon as charismatic detective Hallgrim Hallgrimsson (Jens Albinus) set up his Copenhagen-based team of crimefighters. Equipped with the most advanced technology and high-tech weapons, they track down international terrorists and combat organized crime. Called 'The Eagle' for his unerring intuition, Hallgrimsson exudes competence and self-assurance, but behind the dynamic facade is a tormented personality ... Similarly to the mythical figure of Odysseus, Hallgrimsson is a seeker, whose travels lead him not only to new dangers and deadly traps, but also to anguishing confrontations with his own past.
As varied as the cases are the international locations in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Russia and the Netherlands, which give the series a truly cosmopolitan flair. Moreover, each episode is given a special look and feel through the use of a different film director and director of photography.
'The Eagle' captures audiences with its bold innovativeness, its intricate storytelling and its dynamic visuals. Alexander Coridass, ZDF Enterprises' President and CEO, adds that "in Scandinavia, when you do television, you have the very best actors, directors and screenwriters - you get cinema quality. Scandinavian authors and directors take a lot more risks than you find in TV productions from elsewhere in Europe."
'The Eagle' is produced by DR in co-production with NRK, SVT, RUV, ZDF and ZDF Enterprises.
