Web application "Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall" nominated for International Digital Emmy® Award

Mainz, 4th March 2010

ZDF Enterprises is delighted to announce that its web application "Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall" has just been nominated for an International Digital Emmy® Award in the non-fiction category, where the ZDF Enterprises production is the only competitor against three BBC productions.

The Emmys will be presented at a special ceremony hosted by TV actress/producer Illeana Douglas on Monday 12 April 2010 at MIPTV in Cannes. "The 2010 nominees showcase global excellence in programming on digital platforms and we congratulate them for their outstanding achievements," said Bruce l. Paisner, President / CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Alexander Coridass, ZDF Enterprises' President and CEO, says: "ZDF Enterprises is well aware of the fact that the digitalization will play a major role in any future sales. For this reason, we have been very active in this area in the last years and have developed and successfully marketed numerous web specials, microsites, digital clips etc. Thus, we are thrilled to also be nominated for the 2010 International Digital Emmy Awards and very pleased with the repeated international recognition of our work to this date."

The online application "Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall" was created by ZDF Enterprises’ subsidiary productions to accompany the documentary program "Busting the Berlin Wall." It is a virtual "journey of discovery" that begins with an animated 3D info-graphic depicting a stylized illustration of West Berlin surrounded by the Wall. The Wall is shown in various stages of its existence: from simple fence to menacing border with "death strips" and to its final appearance before its fall. While exploring the info-graphic, the user comes upon various hot spots that each depict a special aspect of the divided Germany. Short films feature, for example, a successful escape across the Baltic Sea, the "Stasi State" GDR or the fall of the Wall on 9 November 1989. Brief texts also supply further information.
