Mainz, June 8th, 2021
ZDF Enterprises has sold the award-winning Nordic drama, The Bridge (S1-4), to North American SVOD platform Topic. The distributor has also relicensed the entire series to Australian public broadcaster SBS TV.
The US deal, ZDF Enterprises’ first with Topic, was brokered by Yi Qiao (Director ZDFE.drama) and Jennifer Liang VP of Acquisitions at Topic, which follows another recent sale to Israel’s KAN. Launched in 2019, Topic, First Look Media’s flagship streaming service, features North American premieres, exclusive and original programming from around the world.
The Bridge, starring Sofia Helin as the inimitable Saga Norén, Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve) and Thure Lindhardt, has enjoyed huge international success. The series has not only sold globally but it has also been remade five times (UK/France, USA/Mexico, Estonia/Russia, Malaysia/Singapore and Germany/Austria).
Robert Franke, Vice President ZDFE.drama, ZDF Enterprises, said: “The Bridge is a timeless classic, a crime thriller that has captivated audiences around the world. This drama is a perfect fit for Topic who focus on acquiring high end, smart content for their viewers.”
“As part of our Summer of Suspense slate of intensely thrilling titles that enable you to become a detective in your own living room, The Bridge will keep our viewers on the edge of their seats with its superb storytelling and excellent casting“, said Ryan Chanatry, General Manager of Topic. “We’re thrilled to be the North American home of such a cult hit and share this heart-stopping noir with our discerning audience.“
Winner of two Golden Nymph Awards (Best European Drama and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Kim Bodnia), The Bridge was created and written by Hans Rosenfeldt. The drama is produced by Filmlance (Sweden) and Nimbus Film (Denmark) in co-production with ZDF, DR, SVT and ZDF Enterprises who is also the global distributor.
