Three European Film Award nominations for ZDF and ZDF Enterprises coproduction "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (Män som hatar kvinnor)
Mainz, 9 December 2009
The European Film Academy has nominated director Niels Arden Oplev's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (Män som hatar kvinnor) for a "European Oscar" in three categories. The Academy's 2,000 members will be selecting the winner shortly.
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is competing for the award as "Best European Film" against "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex" (director: Uli Edel), "Los abrazos rotos" (director: Pedro Almodóvar), "Slumdog Millionaire" (director: Danny Boyle) and others. To date, over 7.4 million moviegoers have followed master hacker Lisbeth Salander and investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in their search for the dark secret of a dynasty of Swedish industrial magnates. The film's sensational theatrical success has propelled it to the rank of the world's third highest-grossing non-English-language film.
The overall success of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is also due to the film's outstanding cast and equally high-caliber crew. Leading actress Noomi Rapace has been nominated as the new European shooting star in the category "Best European Actress" and Jacob Groth as "Best European Composer."
The screen adaptation of the first part of Swedish author Stieg Larsson's internationally bestselling trilogy is a coproduction of the Swedish production company Yellow Bird, ZDF and ZDF Enterprises. German producer Peter Nadermann and story editors Klaus Bassiner and Wolfgang Feindt are delighted with this honor and eagerly await the award ceremony in Bochum on 12 December.
