Mainz, 22nd November 2011
The ZDF/ZDF Enterprises co-production "Millennium" has won an International Emmy Award in the TV movie/mini-series category. The prize was awarded on Monday, 21 November 2011, at the 39th Emmy Awards Gala in New York.
The "Millennium" trilogy by the bestselling Swedish author Stieg Larsson was shot in Sweden in 2009 as an international co-production of Yellowbird, ZDF (commissioning editors: Klaus Bassiner, Wolfgang Feindt), ZDF Enterprises (producer Peter Nadermann) and SVT in cooperation with Nordisk Film with Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace, and was initially screened in European cinemas as a shorter version, with great success. In Germany, the trilogy was distributed to cinemas by nfp marketing & distribution and was seen there by over 1.5 million people. ZDF broadcast the original version in January and February 2011 as a six-part series, in the established crime story slot at 10.00 pm on Sunday night. On average, 4.17 million viewers (market share: 17.8 per cent) followed the thrilling stories about Lisbeth Salander and the investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist.
The International Emmy Award is one of the most important awards for TV productions and is awarded annually by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
