Shooting starts on doc.station documentary “Carthage’s Lost Warriors”
ZDF Enterprises coproduction to be shot on locations in South America

ZDF Enterprises announces the production launch of a 1 x 50’ HD documentary special, “Carthage’s Lost Warriors,” which will be available in summer 2014. For the first time ever, it may be possible to prove that South America was discovered and settled by Mediterranean seafarers over 2,000 years ago.
The story begins in 146 BC, when Rome conquered Carthage. Survivors faced a terrifying fate as Roman slaves. But could some fugitives have crossed the Atlantic Ocean to set foot in South America? Ancient stories tell of a daring getaway – and modern science has now found evidence.
In this one-hour special, the proof is presented for the very first time: from new archaeological finds in the Amazon to genetic analysis of its modern population and an evaluation of ancient Chachapoya mummies. This historical jigsaw puzzle ultimately makes it plausible that refugees from Carthage may have fled to South America.
This is a gripping scientific detective story that will have far-reaching relevance. Will the history of the Americas have to be rewritten? One of the sensational finds can be attributed to molecular geneticist Professor Manfred Kayser of Rotterdam. Using the newest technology in genetic research, he and his team have discovered clues that the surprisingly light-haired and fair-skinned people found in remote Indian villages in the deepest Andes may be direct descendants of Celtic warriors, dating back some 2000 years.
