Mainz, January 30, 2018
The shooting of the ground-breaking documentary series ‚No Shadows – A Day On The Equator’ is completed. ‚No Shadows – A Day On The Equator’ is a 4k/UHD production of SPIEGEL TV, Primitive Entertainment and DEEP Inc. with the support of Discovery Canada, NHK, ZDF/ARTE and ZDF Enterprises. The finished series will be available in 12x52’ UHD format as well as a 3x52’ Best Of-version and special 360°-VR-clips. The broadcast material is scheduled for delivery in June 2018. ZDF Enterprises will be in charge of the worldwide distribution.
‚No Shadows – A Day On The Equator’ is a joint production of the German factual specialist SPIEGEL TV with Primitive Entertainment and DEEP Inc., the two leading Canadian production companies for documentary programs. It is the same team that created “The Polar Sea”, a multi-platform 10-hour journey through the fabled, beautiful – and melting – Northwest Passage, that combines TV, web and virtual reality elements, which achieved top ratings on ARTE, TVO and Knowledge Network.
‚No Shadows – A Day On The Equator’ is a 24-hour TV and interactive event that is centered around the equator, the mythical girdle around our planet. The production is the result of three years of work on the project and more than 160 days of filming. This virtual line links a whole variety of people, landscapes, animals and plants, which all enjoy a climate without seasons and twice a year when the sun is directly overhead at 12 noon, no shadows.
To capture a day on the equator, we follow the longest straight line on our planet to uncover the polyglot treasure-trove of stories with their imposing snapshots. The film and interactive will be gathering impressions, resulting in a unique image of cultural diversity, problems, hopes and yearnings on what seems like the Earth’s idyllic girdle – from tropical overabundance to its hopeless overexploitation. A stimulating cross-section through the glories and miseries of our planet.
The series will have an elaborate online accompaniment that utilizes 360° footage to immersive viewers via VR and mobile in key regions around the equator such as the highest point on the equator, the volcano Cayambe, the Amazonian rain forest or the underwater world off the Maldives.
