Shooting begins on mystery-crime drama “Talking to the Dead”
ZDF Enterprises to handle worldwide sales of drama based on book by U.K. author Harry Bingham
MIPTV / Cannes, 8th April 2013.
ZDF Enterprises, the production and distribution arm of German pubcaster ZDF, announces its first collaboration with Bonafide Films of Newcastle and London: the production of the first TV Movie-length film (1 x 90’ HD) that is one of five pilots recently ordered by SKY. Bonafide Films was founded in 2008 by producer Margery Bone and comedian Sacha Alexander.
Set in Cardiff, Wales, “Talking to the Dead” is the first installment in a cycle based on crime novels by U.K. author Harry Bingham, who works as a banker and writer. Something of a Welsh Lisbeth Salander, the one-of-a-kind heroine Fiona Griffiths is a rookie police inspector with a brilliant mind, a father with questionable roots in the underworld, a propensity for violence, a mixed-up emotional life, and a mysterious illness that gives her a peculiar empathy for the dead.
Says Bill Massey, deputy publishing director of HarperCollins: “Harry Bingham has always been a tremendously compelling storyteller and now he’s come up with a crime series with genuinely bestselling potential. Fiona Griffiths is the most original character I’ve come across in years...” The book was published in Great Britain in 2012 and the rights have been sold to Germany, Spain and the U.S.
ZDF Enterprises is responsible for world sales outside the U.K.
