Milena Maitz appointed to second Managing Director of Studio.TV.Film
Berlin, 26th January 2015
Studio.TV.Film is repositioning itself: from 1st January 2015, producer Milena Maitz has been promoted to the executive board of the Berlin and Baden-Württemberg based company. She now heads the firm jointly with Albert Schäfer, who has been Managing Director since July 2000.
Milena Maitz, who has not only been looking after the renowned childrens’ series “Siebenstein” (for ZDF) for Studio.TV.Film for many years and has been responsible for successful fairytales commissioned by MDR/Degeto, was also producer of the feature film “Age of Cannibals” (director: Johannes Naber, screenplay: Stefan Weigl, with Devid Striesow, Sebastian Blomberg and Katharina Schüttler), which premiered at the Berlinale 2014 to enthusiastic praise from the critics. “I want to build on this success: we want to work together with well-known creative minds and exciting newcomers to get high-quality, high exposure fiction projects off the ground”, says Milena Maitz.
The company’s successful non-fiction division will also be further strengthened (e.g. “Germany – A Republic in Motion”, “Pufpaff’s Happy Hour“, “artelounge”, “Richard Strauss and his Heroines”). The children’s programmes (including “Dandelion”, “Siebenstein”, “Kikaninchen”), will naturally remain the firm’s core competency, focussing on production and development.
Albert Schäfer will be responsible for the commercial management with immediate effect and will also continue to be responsible for all projects and productions relating to the core brand “Dandelion (Löwenzahn)”, while Milena Maitz has taken over responsibility for all other ongoing productions, project development and acquisitions. Albert Schäfer: “Milena Maitz and I have known and valued each other for many years. I am looking forward to our division of responsibilities and to exciting years in the future.”
About Studio.TV.Film GmbH:
Studio.TV.Film GmbH, established in Heidelberg in1969 with an office in Berlin since 1980, has gained a reputation over the decades as a quality-oriented, multifaceted and creative production company, making a name for itself in the children’s programmes sector in particular. In the year 2008, the production company expanded its sphere of activity: since then both fiction and non-fiction formats have been produced as well as children’s programmes.
The main focus of production activity for children’s programmes is communicating content in a playful way, exemplified in its classic programme “Dandelion” which has been running for 35 years and has won many awards, but also in the poetic and humorous series “Siebenstein”, which has been running successfully since 1988. These series form two leading brands from ZDF’s range of children’s programmes. “Beutolomaeus”, the Christmas brand of KI.KA and represented since 2005 by a series produced by Studio.TV.Film and a TV movie, has been a sensational success with viewers; in 2009 the pre-school programme KiKANiNCHEN created a new format with a high-quality combination of CGI production, live footage and animation. Since 2013, the new format “Little Dandelion” has been produced for ZDF, aimed at inquisitive pre-school children.
For MDR/ARD, Studio.TV.Film has produced three high-quality, highly praised fairytales. For DEGETO, a 90-minute TV movie for Friday evening was developed. In 2010, Studio.TV.Film created “Dandelion – The Movie Adventure” (director: Peter Timm) as a coproduction with ZDF for the big screen, which was shown in cinemas in 2011. In 2013, the feature film “Age of Cannibals” was made. Directed by Johannes Naber, this cinema co-production between WDR, ARTE and BR was selected for the German cinema perspective of the Berlinale 2014. Further upmarket cinema and television film projects are in the development phase.
Since 2009, Studio.TV.Film has been presenting classical music in a Berlin club in the “ARTE Lounge”. Documentaries such as “Sergiu Celibidache-Firebrand and Philosopher” (ZDF/3sat)", “Richard Strauss and his Heroines” and the four-part series created for ZDF and 3Sat, “Germany – A Republic in Motion” represent the non-fiction division, where they are also setting new standards.
