"Ku'damm 59" sets new record in ZDF’s online library Mediathek
MIPTV, Cannes / Mainz, 10th April 2018
Following ZDF's successful TV broadcasting of "Ku'damm 59", the three-parter is now enjoying big audiences via the ZDF Mediathek, a free online library for the viewers. With 1.42 million online views, up to and including 3rd April 2018, the first part has already achieved the highest viewing rating of any video thus far made available via the ZDF Mediathek. Part 2 - with 1.35 million views - also has a better rating than the previous record high of 1.18 million views, scored by the "heute-show - End of the Year Review" in 2017. Part 3 of "Ku'damm 59" has so far received 1.15 million views. With a combined total of 3.91 million online views, the average number of views for each of the three episodes is thus 1.31 million.
When converted to the TV viewing performance indicator, the episodes were watched on average by an audience of 0.56 million viewers online. Split among the individual episodes, the figures are 0.5 million for Episode 1, 0.52 million for Episode 2 and 0.64 million for Episode 3. All three episodes went online on 18th March 2018. The TV broadcast was watched on average by an audience of 5.85 million viewers (market share: 16.8 percent). This means that 9 percent of those viewing "Ku'damm 59" did so online.
Making the episodes available via the ZDF Mediathek also allows those viewers who prefer flexibility, mobility and the opportunity to watch all three parts one after another to be reached.
ZDF deputy programme director, Heike Hempel: "We are very pleased that "Ku'damm 59" has enjoyed such a huge response in the Mediathek. Together with the linear narrative, the continuation of the story of the family, which describes issues relevant to women in the 1950s, has once again succeeded in becoming a television event that reaches out and touches people of all generations."
All the episodes, both of "Ku'damm 59" and "Ku'damm 56", will remain accessible in the ZDF Mediathek until March 2019.
The story, featuring a host of prominent actors, shows Caterina Schoellack (Claudia Michelsen) and her three daughters Monika (Sonja Gerhardt), Helga (Maria Ehrich) and Eva (Emilia Schuele) trying to find their way in the conservative society in Berlin in the '50s. It was broadcast on ZDF on the 18th, 19th and 21st March 2018.
Ideas and books originate from Annette Hess, directed by Sven Bohse. The family story is a UFA FICTION production commissioned by ZDF and ZDF Enterprises. The producers are Nico Hofmann and Benjamin Benedict. ZDF's editorial team includes Bastian Wagner, Beate Bramstedt and Heike Hempel. ZDF Enterprises is responsible for global distribution.
