Japanese Streaming Service U-NEXT acquires ZDF Enterprises’ drama highlights ‘Wild District’, ‘Ku’damm 56’ and ‘Ku’damm 59’
Mainz, July 10th, 2019
Japan’s streaming platform U-NEXT has acquired exclusive SVoD rights to the popular drama series ‘Wild District’ (10x60’), ‘Ku’damm 56’ (3x90’ or 6x45’) and ‘Ku’damm 59’ (3x90’ or 6x45’) from ZDF Enterprises.
‘Wild District’ is produced by Dynamo (‘The Hidden Face’, ‘Undertow’) in co-production with ZDF Enterprises. Dynamo also provided production services to such high-profile projects as Netflix’s ‘Narcos’ and ‘American Made’ starring Tom Cruise.
Created by Cristian Conti and directed by Javier Fuentes-León and Carlos Moreno, the series stars Juan Pablo Raba (‘Narcos’, ‘Six’, ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’). ‘Wild District’ blends pure drama and action to tell the story of a man who escapes the Colombian armed conflict only to find himself facing a private war on two fronts.
The family saga ‘Ku’damm 56’ and its sequel ‘Ku’damm 59’ is a family story about the awakening of young people in the 1950s, commissioned by German Pubcaster ZDF and produced by UFA Fiction with renowned producers Nico Hofmann and Benjamin Benedict (‘Generation War’, ‘Deutschland 83’, ‘Deutschland 89’) at the helm.
It garnered top ratings with ZDF’s premiere German broadcast – the finale of the three-parter was seen by 6.35 million viewers (Market Share 19.6%) and were nominated for the iEmmys. The screenplays were written by Annette Hess (German Television Award for ‘Ku’damm 56’). Starring in the series, directed by Sven Bohse, are Sonja Gerhardt, Claudia Michelsen, Maria Ehrich, Emilia Schüle, Trystan Pütter, Sabin Tambrea and others.
