Four nominations and one Honorable Mention for DAWN OF THE OCEAN at BLUE Ocean Film Festival
Coproduction of ZDF Enterprises and Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion in competition
Mainz, 15 August 2012
ZDF Enterprises and its partner Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion are proud to announce that the BLUE Ocean Film Festival has selected their coproduction DAWN OF THE OCEAN (1 x 90’ / 3 x 50’ HD) to compete as a finalist in four categories at the festival, which will be held in Monterey, California, from 24 to 30 September 2012. The program was produced by Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion for German pubcaster ZDF and coproduced by ARTE, National Geographic Channels and NHK. ZDF Enterprises is in charge of the worldwide distribution; the program has already been sold to broadcasters and other licensees all over the world including RAI (Italy), TVE (Spain), TVP (Poland) and LIC (China).
Screened under the title UNIVERSE OF THE OCEAN, the documentary is one of the finalists in the categories “3D,” “Digital and Interactive Campaign,” “Foreign Language” and “Presenter Lead,” and also received an Honorable Mention in the category “Marine and Earth Sciences.”
The BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Event is a seven-day festival showcasing the world’s finest ocean films and award-winning marine photography along with a filmmakers’ marketplace, science and conservation seminars, international policy discussions and an ocean media industry conference.
DAWN OF THE OCEAN was inspired by the findings of the “Census of Marine Life,” a mega-project involving more than 2,000 scientists from 80 countries. It explores such questions as where the seas come from and how marine creatures evolved. It advances new theories about the origin of the oceans and details evolutionary facts about the long chain of life in the world of water. It also reveals the profound effects that ocean life will have on our own species in the future.
By combining natural history, history and science, and through a judicious use of CGI, the film sketches a never-before-seen picture of the oceans.
Conceived as a complement to the documentary is a special 3D web module that lets Internet users plunge into an interactive underwater world and slip into the skin of a variety of creatures so as to become acquainted with life in the depths of the sea. The module can be used in traditional 2D or in 3D.
