“Dance Academy: The Comeback” now set for theatrical release in The Netherlands

Film adaptation of the renowned TV series to celebrate its premiere in the Netherlands in September

Mainz, 14th September 2017

Following a successful rollout across 214 Australian cinemas in the spring of 2017, “Dance Academy: The Comeback” (1 x 97’) will be hitting cinemas in the Netherlands very soon.

The film is a spin-off of the live action series for teenagers (65x26’), which was popular all over the world and won a number of coveted international awards and festival nominations (International Emmy Awards, New York Festivals, Logie Awards, Banff Television Festival and many more).

Like the television series, the film was produced by Werner Film Productions in cooperation with ZDF, and ZDF Enterprises is in charge of its global distribution.

The film features a very similar plot to the smash-hit series: When her career is tragically cut short following an accident, gifted ballet student Tara Webster turns her attention back to her studies. As hard as she tries, she remains unfulfilled; she simply misses dancing too much. Tara decides to prove to herself that her dream is not yet lost. “Dance Academy: The Comeback” tells of the struggles of a girl determined not to give up on her future.

Peter Lang, VP ZDFE.junior at ZDF Enterprises said “The series ‘Dance Academy’ was sold to more than 150 countries worldwide and has an international fan base, including on VoD platforms such as Amazon, Netflix, maxdome and iTunes. Now fans can look forward to the film and to seeing what happened next to Tara, Kat and the gang. Further licensing deals with other territories are close to being finalised.”
