"Dragon" is a co-production between Canada, Germany and Korea and developed for Pubcaster ZDF, YTV Treehouse and EBS
MONTREAL AND MAINZ – September, 7th 2004 -- "Dragon", the first ever co-production between Canada, Germany and Korea, will be launched at MIPCOM Jr. and MIPCOM in October. "Dragon", an animated series in rare and high-quality Stop-Motion-Animation, was produced by Cite´-Amérique (Canada), Scopas Medien AG (Germany) and Image Plus (Korea) and developed for Pubcaster ZDF in Germany, YTV Treehouse in Canada and EBS in Korea.
The deal was announced by Hans Juergen Steimer, Senior Vice President Acquisitions & Coproductions, ZDF Enterprises in Mainz / Germany and Isabelle Bégin, Head of Sales, FRV MEDIA INTERNATIONAL in Montreal / Canada.
The series is based on the famous books "The Dragon Tales" by award-winning children’s author Dav Pilkey , who is the author of million seller "Captain Underpants". His universally identifiable sense of humor, which appeals to both children and adults, is a vital part of "Dragon". The series has been adapted for television by writer Steve Westren.
FRV Media International, the distribution arm of FRV Media Inc. who recently acquired Cite´-Amérique, will be distributing the series in North America, Latin America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. ZDF Enterprises, Mainz / Germany, maintains the European rights, with Image Plus, Korea, overseeing the Asian rights (excluding Japan).
"Dragon" was produced in the rare but popular Stop-Motion Animation technique that has already been the foundation of the success of well-known productions such as "Bob the Builder", "Wallace and Gromit", and "Koala Brothers". Whilst 95% of TV animation is produced in 2D cell animation, the high-quality Stop-Motion Animation productions are the most successful shows worldwide. In addition, the available formats for the series, 26 x 12 minutes, 104 x 2:30 minutes and 26 x 7 minutes, allow flexible and tailor-made programming for any TV station.
"Dragon", targeted for pre-school children, is set in an imaginary world and explores themes that are universally identifiable to children everywhere - wanting a friend, being afraid of the dark - by capturing the endearing and often insightful life stories of our lovable hero, Dragon. In his adventures, Dragon always tries to do good and be fair even through the worst circumstances. He always succeeds to find a solution, often in surprisingly touching ways.
