CCC Filmkunst, MZ-Film and ZDF Enterprises join forces to develop thriller series “Final Cut”
New high-end series based on books by bestselling author Veit Etzold
Mainz, 18th September 2017
CCC Filmkunst, MZ-Film and ZDF Enterprises announce their co-development of thriller series “Final Cut”, based on the bestselling novel series of the same name by Dr Veit Etzold. The agreement initially includes a pilot and outlines for five further episodes. “Final Cut” will be produced by Dr Alice Brauner (CCC Filmkunst GmbH) and Michael Zechbauer (MZ-Film GmbH). The lead writer will be multiple national and international award winner Uwe Janson, who will later also direct the series. Dominik Berg will be responsible for the cinematography, and a premier cast is envisaged for the main roles, such as Carolina Vera (playing Clara Vidalis), Ken Duken (playing Macdeath), Pasquale Aleardi (playing Valbaux) and Dietrich Hollinderbäumer (playing Weinstein).
Top author Dr Veit Etzold regularly appears on the Spiegel bestseller list with his books about Chief Inspector Clara Vidalis, an expert in pathopsychology at the State Office of Criminal Investigation in Berlin. Virtually no other German thriller writer has mastered the art of powerful, realistic tension like him. “Final Cut” features a killer who operates like a computer virus: invisible and omnipresent. He calls himself Nameless, and his actions spread fear and horror throughout Berlin. Chief Inspector Clara Vidalis and her team in the pathopsychology department are already responsible for serious cases, but the behaviour of this criminal takes even their breath away. Brilliant and perfidious, he constantly sends the investigators down the wrong track. And only slowly does the inspector come to realise that Nameless wants to play his cruel game not with the police, but with a single person: herself, Clara Vidalis. While the detectives are still frantically trying to uncover the identity of the killer, media mogul Albert Torino starts a new casting show – and someone is going to use this show for his own brutal ends: Nameless.
Dr Alice Brauner, Managing Director at CCC Filmkunst GmbH: “We at CCC and MZ-Film have been working hard with ZDF Enterprises for years on an adaptation of this brilliantly conceived, multifaceted thriller series by bestselling author Veit Etzold about the emotionally broken pathopsychologist Clara Vidalis. It presents the darkest depths of humanity in a compelling and realistic way that no-one can resist. Not something for the faint-hearted! Now we want to share on screen these hard-hitting scenes which have played out in our minds. We would like to sincerely thank ZDF Enterprises for their willingness to take a risk and their courage in joining us on this gripping journey.”
“It’s extremely exciting to be co-developing this series with this renowned team of producers, writers and actors,” says Alexander Coridass, President and CEO of ZDF Enterprises. “The original book is so extraordinary that you really can use it to create a new high-end series. We are pleased to be part of this collaboration and look forward to what will undoubtedly be a superb adaptation.”
