"Busting the Berlin Wall" wins Japan Foundation President's Prize in JAPAN PRIZE 2010
Mainz, 26th October 2010
ZDF Enterprises is proud to announce that the ZDF / ZDF Enterprises / History Channel Coproduction "Busting the Berlin Wall: Episode 2 - Fall" (2 x 52', HD) has won the Japan Foundation President's Prize, a special prize which is given to an excellent work that encourages mutual understanding among nations and races or contributes to cultural exchange, in the "JAPAN PRIZE 2010 - International Contest for Educational Media". The Awards Ceremony will be held at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Tokyo from 16:00 on October 27, 2010.
For 28 years, the Berlin Wall split a city in two and divided a nation with two million tons of concrete, 700,000 tons of steel, attack dogs, tank traps, death strips and tripwires. While its dangers kept most GDR citizens at bay, others were spurred on to overcome it, by digging under it, hiding in car trunks, flying over it in a hot-air balloon, and even surfing around it... The documentary "Busting the Berlin Wall" examines the most daring escapes, and interviews former border guards, politicians, spies and escapees.
"Busting the Berlin Wall" has already been awarded as "Best History Production" at the History Makers Congress 2010 in New York and the Gold World Medal in "History and Society" at this year's New York Festivals. It has also just recently won the renowned Kress Award for Creative Design of its interactive module "Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall", produced by ZDF Enterprises' subsidiary ZDF.Digital.
