"Busting the Berlin Wall" awarded at History Makers Congress in New York

New York, 29 January 2010

ZDF Enterprises is proud to announce that the ZDF / ZDFEnterprises / History Channel Coproduction "Busting the Berlin Wall" (2 x 52', HD) has been awarded as "Best History Production" at the History Makers Congress 2010 in New York. Alexander Coridass (President and CEO, ZDF Enterprises), Guido Knopp (Head of Contemporary History Department, ZDF) and Oliver Halmburger (President, Loopfilm), who accepted the prize in New York, expressed their great satisfaction that the program has been honored with this award, which is given by a jury of experienced history film producers from around the world.

"Busting the Berlin Wall" is an in-depth portrayal of the deadly Berlin Wall and the people who planned it, built it, guarded it, and overcame it – or tried to. Conceived by Oliver Halmburger and produced by Loopfilm, it is, in the words of Alexander Coridass, "another outstandingly well-researched product from Guido Knopp's Contemporary History Department. Flawlessly researched, exemplarily illustrated with CGI, dramatized with re-enactments and heightened by eyewitness interviews."

"It has been a challenge to tell the stories of these people who escaped from the GDR to the West. They showed what men can do to reach freedom. They are the heroes of my film and deserve this award", said proud producer Oliver Halmburger in his acceptance speech.

More information on the production can be found at [] or at [], a B2B-website which features fascinating CGIs showing how the Wall was built, how people tried to escape, how the Wall evolved over the years and much more.
