A lasting legacy - ZDF Enterprises distributes two new documentaries on nuclear threats
Mainz, 4 June 2013.
ZDF Enterprises presents a timely new thematic program block focusing on the nuclear threat that we are exposed to daily and the constant danger of a nuclear disaster. “Radioactive Detectives” (2 x 50’ HD), produced by Sound & Vision GmbH and ZDF, accompanies fearless – and sometimes reckless – men and women who dedicate their lives to exposing the secrets and cover-ups of national authorities desperate to play down the dangers of nuclear catastrophes.
Filmmakers Alexander and Tatyana Detig introduce us to Yevgen, a young Ukrainian respected for his knowledge of the Chernobyl disaster and who travels to Fukushima to meet other “radioactive detectives,” scientists and victims. Greg Mello and his wife Trish have been investigating the Los Alamos research site in the American Southwest – where the atom bomb was developed – for 20 years now. And in Spain, José Herreras Plaza is making known an incredible scandal that resulted from an accident involving an American nuclear bomb back in 1966.
In “Embittered City” (1 x 50’ HD, same producers and filmmakers as above), the film team takes the viewer to another city in the Ukraine which harbors a secret that continues to cost human lives with each day that passes. This documentary shows that today, even in a country that knows the dangers of radioactivity at first hand, the health of innocent people is put in danger for financial gain. The Ukrainian author of the film has obtained a true, open and unvarnished insight into the situation due to her personal relationship with the country and the people.
