Beneath the streets of every major city lies a dark and ugly secret: garbage. Shot in HD, this documentary series shows how some of the largest cities in the world, such as Rome, Cairo, New York, Paris and London, were built on top of stinking heaps of waste. The filmmakers dig deep into the past – and below the streets – to examine how trash was dealt with through the ages, how it forced cities into making important urban and architectural decisions, and how it propelled advances in science and medicine.
