The physician Dr. Jana Lorenz has just assumed the directorship of the Bush Hospital. She and bush pilot Thomas are immediately drawn into a complex and delicate situation: Obahir, of the Fhaskhar tribe, has hit a shepherd from another tribe, thus seriously disturbing the fragile balance between the two tribes, enemies since generations. If the injured man dies under Jana's care, tradition must be respected, and Obahir must also die. When the shepherd unexpectedly dies, Thomas fears for the life of his friend Obahir and, with Jana, tries to find a solution. Then they learn that the patient had drunk infected water before the accident. They must now find the source in order to prevent the spread of the illness. Indeed, more and more people are getting infected at the clinic. Can Jana come up with an antidote soon enough?
