Heavily pregnant Chief Inspector Alex Enders goes on maternity leave. She is admittedly anxious about how a child will change her life and her relationship with her partner, Leif. Sometimes she even wishes everything was just like it was before.
But then, in an unimaginably cruel way, these secret thoughts come true. Alex is kidnapped. She wakes up a week later, is bloodied, her baby is gone, and she has no memory of the birth. When her colleagues make no headway in investigating the kidnapping, Alex takes over. In her solo efforts she defies all regulations and boundaries and loses support from her colleagues and even her boss. Her relationship with Leif also becomes increasingly strained.
Alex gets entangled in a web of suspicions and lies and risks everything to get her child back: her job, her relationship, her own life.
