While the state government begins to lock down the island and implement strict safety and security measures, everyone in the village attends Ole’s funeral. Only Herm is missing from the public event, out of a fear of his father. Having discovered that Herm knew about the three boys on the boat and lied to him about it, Mikkel is so angry with his son that he could kill him. Mikkel is now a laughingstock and a disgrace in the eyes of the state government, all because of his son. His punishment is to ground Herm so that he can’t go on his first date with Yvonne. Angry at his father, he intentionally infects him with the virus. Evelin pretends to spend the night at her friend Yvonne’s house and sneaks off to see Milan, her teacher and lover. During the night, she starts to feel very sick, bleeding out of her eyes, and she begins to panic that she will die too. But the next to die is Merit Ponz, the bookshop owner who brought Nikolai Wagner to the island for his reading.
